In (Luke 13:24), Jesus says to “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.”
I tend to have a spirit of laziness, especially in regards to my day to day life. I’m mainly a stay at home mom, who also works from home and homeschools. So I am home a lot. It is very easy to let self-discipline head out the door and just do enough to get by.
While I strive for excellence in my work, I tend to procrastinate, and honestly, I prefer naps and rest to activity and hustle.
Coming across red-letter Jesus saying to “make every effort” brought about some conviction in my spirit. As I reflected on the last few weeks of my life, I had to ask myself if I had, indeed, be making every effort to grow in Christlikeness in all aspects of my life? Am I living, not just intentionally, but diligently for the sake of cross?
This idea, of making every effort, of doing our best or giving all we have for the sake of the cross, it is prevalent throughout the New Testament. But, what does it mean? What do I need to understand about it for a heart transformation to take place?
Because, for me, lifestyle changes and behavior modification will only last me so long. I need the truth of Scripture to penetrate to the deepest parts of my heart so that a spirit of diligence will reside in me, and not just a list of do’s and don’t’s and should’s and should not’s.
Listen in today as we uncover what Jesus meant when He said, “Make every effort” in (Luke 13:24) and be challenged to consider, from Pastor John Piper, what helps you run your Christian race well.
Three questions we look at:
- With whom do I spend my time?
- On what do I spend my free time?
- What are the things that are helping me run?
Nothing to Prove
